Navigating Medicare Made Simple with Dominion Health

At Dominion Health, we know Medicare can feel complicated, especially when enrolling for the first time or updating your coverage. Our experienced care team makes the process simple and helps you feel confident in every healthcare decision.

Your Step-by-Step Guide to Understanding Medicare

Step 1: Explore Your Eligibility
Most individuals qualify for Medicare at age 65 or older, or earlier with certain health conditions. Start by confirming when and how you can enroll.

Step 2: Learn What’s Covered
Medicare helps cover hospital care, doctor visits, preventive screenings, lab work, prescriptions, and more — but the details depend on the plan you choose.

Step 3: Compare Plan Options
You can choose between Original Medicare or Medicare Advantage (private insurance plans that combine multiple benefits and may offer extras like dental, vision, or wellness coverage).

Step 4: Review Prescription Coverage
Medication plans vary. Our team can help you understand how to include prescription benefits to reduce out-of-pocket costs.

Step 5: Schedule Your Medicare Wellness Visit
Your annual wellness visit keeps you on track with preventive care, screenings, and personalized health goals — generally covered by Medicare when the provider accepts assignment.

Primary Care for San Antonio Medicare Patients

If you are turning 65, new to Medicare, or looking for a primary care doctor who accepts Medicare, Dominion Health can help. Our physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants provide ongoing primary care for adults on Medicare. That includes preventive visits, geriatric care, care for long-term conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure and COPD, and care when you are sick. We accept many Medicare plans. Call us to confirm yours.

What to Expect at Your Medicare Visit

Welcome to Medicare and Annual Wellness Visits

In your first 12 months on Part B you can have a “Welcome to Medicare” preventive visit, and after that a yearly Annual Wellness Visit. We review your health history and medications, check measurements such as blood pressure and weight, screen for concerns such as fall risk and memory changes, and create a personalized prevention plan. Medicare generally covers these visits at no cost when the provider accepts assignment. Tests or treatment for other problems done at the same visit may have a copay or deductible.

Ongoing care

Between yearly visits, your provider follows up on chronic conditions, medications and any tests you need, and refers you to specialists when appropriate.

Medicare Coverage: What to Know

Your costs depend on whether you have Original Medicare, a Medicare Supplement or a Medicare Advantage plan. Bring your Medicare card, any Advantage or supplement card, and a list of your medications to your first visit. Dominion Health does not sell Medicare plans. For enrollment questions, visit Medicare.gov or call 1-800-MEDICARE.
